IRAN: Sirri Island NGL plant to be completed in two years

An LNG (natural gas liquids) plant being constructed on Sirri Island in southern Iran will be completed within two years, project manager Mohammad-Reza Abrishami said on Monday.

Operations to construct the plant have so far progressed by 20 percent, and work on infrastructures is underway, he told the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA).

“Expected to come on stream over the next two years, the NGL plant is aimed at collecting associated gases produced from the fields at Sirri Island,” Abrishami, who is also the director for a project to collect associated gases from the fields at the island, added. He continued, “Died gases from the fields are to be sent to power plants at Qeshm and Kish, while the extracted gas condensates are to be exported.”

To collect the associated gases at Sirri, four projects are underway, he noted, terming them as construction of a unit to produce gas condensates, gas transfer pipelines to Qeshm and Kish islands, and facilities to enhance pressure.

He added that the gas transfer pipelines from Sirri to Qeshm and Kish have been completed in offshore part.

According to the official, Sirri NGL Plant is under construction to collect 140 million cubic feet (mcf) of associated gases, of which 40 mcf will be used to produce condensates. This is equal to the production of 12,000 barrels per day of condensates, he added.

“Of the remaining, 20 mcf will be used at Sirri Island, while the rest will be sent to Qeshm and Kish,” he continued. He noted that Sirri NGL Plant and gas transfer pipelines call for investments worth $220 million and $75 million respectively. “Oil Industries Engineering and Construction Company (OIEC) is the contractor for construction of this NGL plant.”

Abrishami also said that Qeshm Power Plant is expected to become operational within the next two years.
