Chevron Donates $10 Million to Institute

Oil company Chevron Corp. said Monday it would donate $10 million to help build a new headquarters for the U.S. Institute of Peace, a nonpartisan group created by Congress to promote peace efforts worldwide.

The donation will help fund the new building to be built by the Lincoln Memorial. The building is scheduled to break ground in September and be finished by the end of 2009, according to the institute's Web site. Congress has provided $100 million for construction.

Chevron (nyse: CVX - news - people ) shares rose 19 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $71.69 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange, near a 52-week high of $76.20.
