PERU: Petroperu tenders to sell higher sulfur content fuel cargo & trade

Peruvian state oil company Petroperu tendered to sell a 220,000 barrel cargo of fuel oil that has higher sulfur content than what Peru regularly produces, a market source said Thursday. Petroperu is offering potential bidders the option of loading a No.6 fuel oil with 1.9% sulfur or a heavy fuel oil with 2% sulfur, the source said.

The sulfur content in the offered fuel oil is higher than the 1.6%-1.7% sulfur fuel oil that Petroperu normally exports, the source added. The source said the fuel oil has higher sulfur because it will be made using Venezuelan lago Treco crude, which was bought by the state oil company recently. Peru will accept offers on Monday, August 28 and an award is expected the following day, the source said. The cargo is being offered for loading September 20-25. Petroperu normally buys Ecuadorean Oriente crude to process in its refineries but in early August it bought a 400,000 barrel Lago Treco cargo that is set to arrive to Peru between Sep 5-8.

Before that crude purchase was reported, some sources had said that Venezuela had Lago Treco available to offer as a result of reduced running rates at the Amuay refinery following a fire in July.
