ASIA: Large cooking oil plant inaugurated in HCMC

Cai Lan Oils & Fats Industries Company Ltd (CALOFIC) today launched the operation of its new cooking oil plant at Hiep Phuoc industrial zone in Nha Be district, Ho Chi Minh City.

With an investment of US $34 million, the plant is one of the biggest cooking oil plants in Vietnam. CALOFIC also has two other plants in Quang Ninh and Can Tho, producing blended cooking oils and rice bran oil respectively.

The plant in Hiep Phuoc IZ is built with modern facilities imported from Germany, Japan, Demark and the US. It has a capacity of manufacturing 600 tonnes of refined oil of different kinds per day.

The launching of the plant in Ho Chi Minh City has lifted CALOFIC’s products to 1,150 tonnes per day including various brands of blended cooking oils such as Neptune, Golden Carp, Meizan, Simply, Satellite, and Cai Lan, meeting 40-50% of the domestic demand.

The company was the first vegetable oils company in Vietnam possessing the ISO 9001 certification in 2000. CALOFIC is also a well-established supplier of shortening and frying fats for industrial end-users such as: manufacturers of confectioneries, instant noodles, snack food producers and many others. Products from the Can Tho Rice Bran Oil Extraction Factory are exported to China, Japan, EU, Middle East and also consumed domestically.

CALOFIC is a joint venture between VOCARIMEX of the Ministry of Industry & SITEKI Investments Pte Ltd. of the Kuok Group from Singapore with a total investment capital of over US $57 million.
