BRASIL: New delivery agreements for Peregrino

Hydro and Anadarko Petroleum Corporation have entered into an agreement with Wellstream International Ltd. for delivery of 12 flexible risers for the Peregrino oilfield development offshore Brazil.

A further agreement has been made with Prysmian for power and communication cables.

The Wellstream International agreement is worth GBP 18 million, and the agreement with Prysmien is worth USD 19 million.

The risers will be used to connect subsea pipelines to two wellhead platforms and a floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO).

The pipes will be partially manufactured in Newcastle, UK, before delivery to Wellstream’s new Brazilian manufacturing facility in Niteroi where insulation, outer sheath and end fittings will be added and the pipes completed before shipping from the adjacent Bardella base.

The cables will provide power and communication between the FPSO and the wellhead platforms. The Prysmian delivery consists of 20 kilometers of dynamic power and communication cables, which will be manufactured in the company’s new hi-tech facility located in Vila Velha, Brazil.

Deliveries are scheduled for the second quarter of 2009.

Major oil field
The Peregrino field is located 85 kilometers offshore Brazil at a water depth of around 100 meters. The recoverable resources are estimated at between 300 million and 600 million barrels of heavy oil.

The field will be developed with an FPSO vessel and two drilling platforms. The development plans include 30 horizontal production wells and seven water injection wells.

The Peregrino field is Hydro’s first oil and gas commitment in Brazil. Production start up is planned for 2010.
