eNergy STOCKS:It moved into the green,reversing earlier losses as the sector followed the overall mkt amid earnings updates from Duke Energy & EL Paso

Energy stocks post gains, reverse losses. The Amex Oil Index (XOI :1,313.33, +5.13, +0.4% ) rose 1%, erasing an earlier loss of 1%. Exxon Mobil (XOM :85.24, +1.70, +2.0% ) rose 1.5% and Marathon Oil (MRO : 52.02, +2.78, +5.6% ) gained 4.4%.

The Amex Natural Gas Index (XNG :485.60, -3.08, -0.6% ) rose 0.2%. The CBOE Oil Index (OIX : 724.89, +2.68, +0.4% ) added 1%. Duke Energy (DUK :18.45, +0.55, +3.1% ) rallied 3.4% to $18.50 after it reported at 17% drop in earnings.

El Paso (EP : 16.76, -0.07, -0.4% ) rose 1% to $17 on the heels of its latest profit update. Plains Exploration & Production (PXP : 40.25, -1.55, -3.7% ) fell 2.9% on its earnings report. Bill Barrett (BBG :35.19, +1.52, +4.5% ) rallied 6.3% $35.78 after boosting its production target for the year. Crude oil for September delivery fell 70 cents, or 1%, at $71.36 a share.
