AFRICA: Iran, Algeria explore avenues for expansion of mutual cooperation

Iran's Deputy Minister of Housing and Urban Development Mohammad Manouchehr Khajeh Doluei conferred on Thursday with Algerian Finance Minister Karim Djoudi on expansion of cooperation between the two countries.

At the meeting, the Algerian minister said there are ample untapped grounds for more active cooperation of the Iranian companies in implementing development projects in Algeria.

Algeria has launched development projects mainly in oil sector and welcomes cooperation with foreign companies mainly those from the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said.

He described the upcoming visit of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to his country as a positive move which would help bolster bilateral ties. He called establishment of branches of Iranian banks in Algeria as a proper measure which would serve to increase investments and promote economic and commercial ties between the two states.

Referring to the invitation extended to him to pay an official visit to Iran, he expressed the hope that the visit would take place as soon as possible.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will arrive in Algeria on August 6 on a two-day official visit. Ahmadinejad would discuss major regional and international issues with his Algerian counterpart Abdelaziz Bouteflika as well as other senior Algerian officials.
