Africa player Afren has achieved flow rates of 1,000 barrels per day from the deepest of strata pierced by the Ofa No. 1 well in Nigeria, the company heralded Wednesday.
With Afren crews testing shallower zones at Ofa, development drilling is set to roll at Okoro Setu by fourth-quarter 2007. Shareholders were also told that in Congo and Gabon, the 1978 Shell well at Eremor was about ready for re-entry.
Company management said they expect 15,000 to 20,000 barrels of first oil per day from Okoro Setu by mid-2008. The floating production ship, Armada Perkassa, will in December 2008 arrive from the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore with a test separator and gas-lift compressor.
In the Congo, meanwhile, the first well to be drilled at the Doungou prospect is set for August, with Maurel et Promi as operator.
In Gabon, a well on the Themis Marin license’s Admiral prospect will be drilled by operator Sterling in Q4 2007, and Afren has a 13 percent stake.
