BAHRAIN: BID TO AVERT POWER CRISIS



The Premier yesterday acted to avert potential power and water crises this summer. He ordered the Ministry of Electricity and Water to take every possible measure this year to prevent blackouts and water cuts.

The Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, referred to recent water shortages caused by maintenance at the key Al Door plant - and repeat power blackouts in some areas.

He ordered that these areas be supplied with water from the strategic reserves of Nabih Saleh, Isa Town and Demistan.

He also ordered to provide power cut-hit areas like Riffa, Tubli, Jaw and Askar with temporary power generators to prevent reoccurrence of problems of last summer.

The Prime Minister hailed the role played by municipal councils, which acted swiftly to notify concerned bodies of water and power shortages in their areas and praised the Press for pinpointing shortcomings and for according high interest to public issues.
