NORTH AMERICA: Alaskan lease sale runs out deadline

The sale area, terms and the need to protect vital sea mamals were detailed in the prospectus for Sale No. 193, which offers at least 15 blocks and part blocks.

The Lease sale was called after oil companies from ENI to Shell showed “more interest than expected”.

The sale has been fraught with environmental fears for fish and whales, including the cherished humpback, bowhead and beluga species according to 20-page environmental impact assessment.

Applications for Alaskan acreage will be mailed back “unopened” if they arrive after the February 8, 2008 deadline.
