EMIRATES: Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company profit soars to record $180 million
Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) made a record $180 million profit last year, it was revealed yesterday. The announcement was made by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company general manager Abdul Rahaman Jawahery, while speaking at the conclusion of the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company Health and Safety Week celebrations at its complex in Sitra.

The event was held under the patronage of Advisor to the Prime Minister for Industry and Oil Affairs and
Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company chairman Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa.

"We are extremely proud of our safety achievements," said Mr Jawahery and said the excellent safety record had contributed to the profits.





"The records have been recognised internationally and we have received several awards as well. This is all due to the employees' dedication."

He said the year gone by was full of challenges and there were also a lot of achievements by the company.

"The year witnessed the biggest periodical maintenance in the
Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company's history in terms of the work carried out, the budget and the manpower involved."

He said the GPIC was proud for being honoured by His Majesty King Hamad and for receiving the Business Excellence Award at a ceremony on Thursday.

He announced that the first ever Safety Summit Conference would be held in Bahrain in March this year after organisers considered its excellent reputation in the areas of health, safety and environmental protection.

Later, Mr Jawahery was joined by
Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company deputy chairman Anwar Saeed bin Salama, managing director Yousuf Abdul Rahman Al Zamil and other officials, in presenting awards to the best departments in safety and housekeeping.

Also honoured were the best performing employees in safety in different departments. The event included a prize draw in the competitions aimed at raising the employees' safety awareness whether at the workplace or in their homes. An exhibition to display the activities and achievements of the company's Joint Safety, Health and Environment Committees and some of the contractors involved in the company's operations was also held on the occasion.
