Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) is set to start up its new 60,000 barrels per day diesel-making hydrocracker on March 20, the company said on its website. The new unit is aimed at enabling Bapco to make ultra-low sulphur diesel at its 254,000-bpd Sitra refinery for export to Europe or Asia.
A start-up in March would coincide with Neste Oil's plan to bring on line a new hydrocracker at its Porvoo refinery in Finland around the end of the first quarter. 'It should open at the end of March,' Neste's chief executive Risto Rinne said earlier, referring to the Porvoo unit. 'The schedule is tight, but doable.'
Bapco's planned start-up date for its hydrocracker followed the go-ahead from Chevron after a review in January of Bapco's commissioning programme for the new unit, the company said. Chevron Lummus Global, a joint venture between Chevron and ABB Lummus Global, licensed the hydrocracking technology for the new unit. Bapco officials were unavailable to comment.
