British Petroleum and Marathon Oil have struck oil on Block 204/23 190 kilometres west of the Shetland Islands, where the Paul B Loyd Junior semi-submersible drill rig had bored into the Southwest Foinaven prospect.
Well 204/23-2 reached total depth of 2,528 metres below sea level. The find is 11 km southwest of the floating production storage and offloading vessel Foinaven FPSO, which holds out the prospect of “a two-well sub-sea tieback”.
The Licence-P1263 blocks 204/ 23 and 204/24 are operator British Petroleum (72 percent) and Marathon Oil (28 percent) awards of the 23rd Offshore Licensing Round in 2005.
