NORTH AMERICA: British Petroleum and Marathon Oil, strike Shetlands oil

Marathon OilBritish Petroleum and Marathon Oil have struck oil on Block 204/23 190 kilometres west of the Shetland Islands, where the Paul B Loyd Junior semi-submersible drill rig had bored into the Southwest Foinaven prospect.

Well 204/23-2 reached total depth of 2,528 metres below sea level. The find is 11 km southwest of the floating production storage and offloading vessel Foinaven FPSO, which holds out the prospect of “a two-well sub-sea tieback”.
