British-Italian Mediterranean Oil & Gas has begun exploring the Teboursouk prospect in the giant Medjerda area of north Tunisia, where “a new oil-play concept” is being tested while aiming for 100 million barrels of oil.
Company management said in a statement that the “risk-reward trade-off” was “attractive” in an area where Cretacious-era rock “feeds” Teboursouk in the south of Medjerda.
Two reservoirs are targeted from about 2,000 metres onward in an area where oil shows appear to confirm the likelihood of commercial oil.
Mediterranean is headed by chief exec Sergio Morandi, former Shell E&P boss and a seismic expert.
