Cuban socialist fighter, Fidel Castro, has retired from politics and is stepping down as the country’s leader and commander-in-chief at the age of 81.
Fidel Castro swept down from the hills in eastern Cuba in 1958 to oust U.S.-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista. He later defeated a U.S.-organized invasion at the Bay of Pigs in 1961.
His brother, Raul Castro, has hinted at economic reforms.
Oil and gas exploration has been limited owing to the number of suppliers based in countries which have not braved the decades-long U.S. Navy blockade.
