A joint venture of Aker Kvaerner and IHI Inc. will be put in charge of building Houston-based Gulf LNG’s onshore liquefied natural gas import and re-gasification terminal in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, it was announced Friday.
The $600 million contract followed an official go-ahead on 7 February 2008, although work had already started.
The joint venture headquartered in Houston will oversee 125 personnel. Aker Kvaerner Industrial Constructors, Inc. will employ up to 650 at the project’s height. Two 160,000-square-metre LNG tanks and a vaporization system are envisioned for the production of 1.5 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day for Gulf-area customers.
El Paso Corp. on Thursday said it had clinched its 50-percent stake in the Gulf LNG Clean Energy Project.
The terminal is expected to cost $1.1 billion and be in service by 2012.
