EUROASIA: Azerbaijan is getting prepared to export its gas to Europe

On August 30, President of the Azerbaijani National Oil Company (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev received a delegation led by Turkish Deputy Energy and Natural Resources Minister Sami Demirbilek, press office of SOCAR informs.

The question of gas transporting from Shakh Deniz field in the Azerbaijani section of the Caspian Sea to Europe via the Turkish territory and implementation of projects conducted together with foreign companies, including functioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipelines, were discussed at the meeting.

Abdullayev informed about implementation of the action plan to increase gas extraction and the first stage of Shakh Deniz exploration. In particular, they touched upon issues concerning joint preparations for the second stage of the project.

Starting from September 15, Turkey is preparing to start re-export of gas from Shakh Deniz to Greece. Azerbaijan is trying to export gas to Europe through the Turkish territory on its own and claims free and equal conditions for transit from the country.
