INDIA: Hindustan Zinc, lines up expansion plans to touch million tonne capacity

Vedanta group company Hindustan Zinc Ltd has lined up major expansion plans to take its total capacity to one million tonne and to add 110 mw to its total wind power capacity.

"The company is well on its path to realise its one million tonne mission. Other major expansion plans are under implementation, being financed through internal accruals,"
Hindustan Zinc said in a release.

During 2006-07, the company increased its reserves and resources by 32 million tonne, an increase of 18 per cent over the previous year. Total reserve and resources as on March 31, 2007 stood at 209.4 million tonne, it said.

Wind energy projects being undertaken by the company in Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra totalling 110.4 MW are progressing as per schedule,
Hindustan Zinc said adding that its total wind power capacity would stand at 148.8 MW after the expansion.

The company registered a 7 per cent increase in zinc concentrate production to 5,04,956 MT (MIC), 13 per cent increase in lead concentrate production to 67,364 MT (MIC), 23 per cent growth in zinc metal production to 3,48,316 MT and 103 per cent increase in lead metal production to 50,187 MT on the back of expansion of mine and smelter capacities.

It has paid an interim dividend of 25 per cent and further recommended 25 per cent dividend, taking the total dividend for 2006-07 to 50 per cent.
