Shell has reaffirmed its commitment to meeting the global energy challenge through innovation.The affirmation came during a ceremony held at the Fairmont Hotel in Dubai to celebrate the company's centenary of global operations.
A delegation of business leaders, stakeholders and key customers from around the region convened at the event to mark the anniversary of one of the largest foreign investors in the Middle East, said a spokesman.
The company, which was formed on July 5, 1907, following an agreement between Royal Shell and Shell Transport and Trading, is now a global group of energy and petrochemical companies, employing more than 108,000 people worldwide and active in 145 countries and territories.
With a Middle Eastern exploration and production network headquartered in Dubai, Royal Dutch Shell's history spans 68 years in Abu Dhabi and 50 years in Dubai, incorporating established divisions in chemicals, aviation, bitumen, commercial fuels, lubricants and marine.
In Abu Dhabi, Shell has been actively involved in the oil and gas activities in partnership with ADNOC.
"We are very proud of our success, but we still have more challenges to overcome as we are committed to meeting the energy challenge through forward thinking and technological innovation. We plan to revitalise our operations through new long-term growth projects, investments in cleaner fuels and renewable technologies, and a pioneering approach towards environmental protection," said Shell communications manager Omar Al Qurashi.
Shell chemicals, lubricants, aviation and marine fuels are widely available throughout the Middle East, and the company is a major trading partner with 17 countries throughout the region.
