The Viet Nam Electricity Corporation (EVN) has announced that demand for electricity consumption will sharply increase in 2008, up to 77 billion kWh.
However, the corporation will be able to meet demand of 53 billion kWh, and will have to buy another 24 billion kWh from other local power companies as well as from China .
Viet Nam Electricity Corporation estimates that it would suffer a huge loss of 6 trillion VND (380 million USD) because it is allowed to sell electricity at a rate that is lower than the price it pay. Shortage of capital is plaguing the electricity supply sector in Viet Nam.
