VENEZUELA / IRAN : expanding to AFRICA

Iranian Ambassador to Caracas Abdollah Zifan and Venezuelan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Africa Reinaldo Bolivar conferred on expansion of cooperation between the two countries.

According to Venezuelan news agency, at the meeting on Friday, the Iranian diplomat said that both countries are determined to materialize their goals and priorities on development of African continent.

Such cooperation is based on the agreement reached between the officials of two countries at the African Unity meeting in the Gambian capital of Banjul in early summer of 2006.

Iran and Venezuela cooperate in various fields, including energy, agriculture, agricultural industries, infrastructural affairs, health, water treatment and development of human resources.

Zifan pointed to cooperation between the two states as a positive step towards development of African continent, saying that attraction of the African countries' agreement for cooperation will prepare the conditions for their continuous independence.

For his part, Bolivar said that the strategy of his country is based on expansion of south-south cooperation and strengthening its ties with Africa.

Meanwhile, he said that the second meeting between South American and African countries is expected to be held in Caracas in future.

He said that a branch office of Venezuela's Development Bank is expected to open in the African country of Mali.

"Besides, Venezuela plans to implement a project on school superintendence in 16 African states and continue its cooperation with Cuba in the field," he added.

The Venezuelan deputy minister welcomed Iran's participation in these projects.
