INDIA: Record turnover for BHEL power sector division

The power sector division of BHEL (Southern Region) has reported a record turnover of Rs 625 crore for the last fiscal, an increase of 68.5 per cent over the previous year's turnover of Rs 371 core.

"This is the best ever performance of the division so far", group General Manager of the power division of BHEL (South), E Meenakshisundaram, told a press conference here on Saturday night.



The Profit Before Tax was up by 96.30 per cent during the period, he said, adding that the division earned a profit of Rs 115.66 crore in 2006-07 against Rs.58.92 crore the previous year, he said.

The division also received a record all high time new orders worth Rs 858.58 crore. Its outstanding orders stood at Rs 1,875 crore, which was also another record. He said BHEL would commission projects, which would generate 1,210 MW of power during the first quarter of the current fiscal.

Meenkashisundaram said most thermal power stations to which BHEL had supplied machinery had achieved a Plant Load Factor of more than 85 per cent.
Topping the list was Mettur thermal station with 91.59 per cent, followed by Simhadri with 91.14 per cent, he said.

BHEL had also bagged the prestigious order of turbine erection for the Russian aided Koodankulam Nuclear power project.

As part of its diversification plans, BHEL's Ranipet unit would resume production of machinery to produce wind energy. The production of machinery, which was stopped 10 years ago, would resume soon and it would be totally indigenised, he added.
