MEXICO: Pemex Says 3 Dead in Platform Accident

Mexican state oil monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, said that a cable broke on a drilling platform in southern Mexico, killing three workers and seriously injuring four.

The accident happened when a cable used in a traveler pulley snapped at the Sonora drilling platform, off the coast of the Gulf state of Campeche, Pemex said in a statement Wednesday. It said the platform is owned by a contractor, Perforadora Mexico.

The three workers killed were Pemex employees. The four injured, who were hospitalized in nearby Ciudad del Carmen, work for Perforadora Mexico, Pemex said.

The company said the accident is under investigation.
