Kazakh leaders want $7 billion in compensation for delays and a doubling of costs from the ENI-lead consortium developing the economy-defining Kashagan oilfield.
The Kazakhs are livid the 38-billion-barrel oilfield won’t be developed on time, but the latest compensation figure is $3 billion less that what was once demande, a Reuters report has said.
Kashagan developers hint at a 2010 start-up, some five years behind schedule. Costs projections have more than doubled to $136 billion.
Kazakh leadership has not yet puts views to an official press release, contrary to the norm for new developments in the Kashagan dispute.
Royal Dutch Shell, ExxonMobil, Total, ConocoPhillips and Inpex Holdings fill out the Kashagan consortium.
