The new rate on natural gas imported to Ukraine at $179.5 per 1,000 cubic meters will be a shock for the larger part of the Ukrainian economy, REGNUM quotes president of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko to say Dec 6 while speaking to journalists.
According to the president, $147 per 1,000 cubic meters would be an optimal price tag for the commodity. He also has informed that the issue will be discussed in detail at an energy summit in Kiev in 2008. Yushchenko advised politicians to avoid politicizing the issue of natural gas supplies. “Such allegations would bring nothing but harm. We need to be sensitive and careful in the matter,” Viktor Yushchenko said.
