Saipem has become the latest contractor to the offshore oil and gas industry to make a move into specialist deepwater field-development vessels, after the company declared Friday it would invest €380 million ($558 million) on an ultra-deep ship.
Aker Kvaerner and Aker Oilfield Services made a similar announcement in late November in order to satisfiy Petrobras demands. In mid-November BP and Expro Group announced plans to develop a deepwater intervention tool.
