CANADA : Areva bags Rs 550 cr contract from Alcan

Areva's transmission and distribution division today said it has got a turn key contract to build an electricity supply system for Alcan's new AP50 plant located in Quebec, Canada.

The company expects to complete the delivery of the supply system to be built at a cost of about Rs 550 crore (100 million Euros) by September 2009, Areva T & D said in a release here.

The
AP50 plant will operate at 500 kilo amperes (kA) and will produce a projected 60,000 tons per year of primary aluminium, the release said.

Under the current
Areva will build a high voltage power rectifier station that will convert the incoming alternating current into direct current, required for the aluminium production process, it said.

The contract will help Areva T & D reach its global objective for the electro-intensive industries market to double its order intake by 2010.

"This win also demonstrates our ability to meet the specific needs of electro-intensive industry customers and represents another breakthrough in our strategy to grow on this market,"
Areva T & D Chairman and CEO Philippe Guillemot said.
