MIDDLE EAST: Bahrain hopeful of gas purchase from Iran

Bahraini Minister of State for Oil and Gas Affairs Abdolhossein Mirza has said his country is hopeful of reaching an agreement on purchase of natural gas from Iran.

Mirza quoted by the Bahraini-based daily al-Watan said the first Iran-Bahrain Joint Technical Gas Committee session was the first step towards talks in this regard.

He said outcome of the first meeting of joint technical committee was positive, reflecting the two sides' willingness to have economic cooperation in line with common interests.

The first session of Iran-Bahrain Joint Gas Committee was held in Manama, Bahrain, from September 10-11.

In the meeting members of Iran-Bahrain Joint Gas Committee surveyed ways and means for export of gas from Iran to Bahrain and Bahrain's investment in Iranian oil and gas projects.

The second session of the committee will be held in Tehran in November to reach final agreement.
