The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has pledged credit worth 7.3 billion Yen for a thermoelectric power plant in Thuy Nguyen district, northern Hai Phong province.
A contract to this effect was signed between representatives from the Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) and the bank in Ha Noi on Mar. 28.
The project was invested by the Hai Phong Thermoelectric Power Joint Stock company whose major shareholder is EVN with 87.5 percent of capital.
The plant, with a designed capacity of 600 MW, will be able to generate 3.6 billion kWh per year, thus helping to meet the country's demand for electricity during the 2006-10 period.
Construction of the plant is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of this year. It is expected to start generate electricity by the fourth quarter of 2009.
