USA: Energy Dept. reports unexpected fall in U.S. crude supply

Crude supplies fell for the first time in three weeks, down unexpectedly by 4.8 million barrels to 324.2 million for the week ended March 2, according to the Energy Department. Distillates supplies fell for a sixth week, down 1.3 million barrels to 123.2 million.

Motor gasoline stocks fell for a fourth week, down 3.8 million barrels to total 216.4 million barrels. Following the news, April crude was up $1.01 to $61.70 a barrel. April reformulated gasoline rose 3.07 cents to $1.884 a gallon and April heating oil traded at $1.769 a gallon, up 2.17 cents.
