MALAYSIA: Binh Duong negotiating for US$1bil power plant

In the afternoon on February 6, the Binh Duong Peoples’ Committee had a working session with Malaysia’s Toyo Ink group to discuss the construction of a $1bil power plant in the province.

Provincial authorities and the investor discussed the investment incentives to be given for the 1,000MWA power plant project and issues related to land.

The Malaysian group wants to build a thermo power plant on an area of 50 ha, which would operate for 50 years in Ben Cat district in the southern province of Binh Duong. Toyo’s representative said that the thermo power plant would use gas, and once operational, the plant would sell electricity to Electricity of Vietnam.

Tran Van Loi, Deputy Chairman of the Binh Duong Peoples’ Committee, has applauded the power plant project, which will help settle the electricity shortage in Binh Duong province since the demand is increasing. Mr Loi said that if the project could be implemented, it would provide electricity not only to Binh Duong province, but also to the southern key economic area and the country as a whole.

The Binh Duong Peoples’ Committee has promised to create favourable conditions for the project to go smoothly and effectively.
